This is a postcard geocache in Graham Cave State Park.

Graham Cave State Park is a fascinating archaeological site that reveals the native indian past of Missouri. The site has a museum and picnic areas.

The geocache is hidden in the brush not far from one of the picnic areas.

What is a postcard cache?

A postcard cache is the geocacher's mail box. It helps you to surprise friends. How many times were you planning to send a postcard to a friend but didn't? A postcard cache will help you to solve this mess. How does it work? Simply take a pair of identical postcards with you when you go for the hunt. One card stays blank, the other one has to be adressed to a friend and must have sufficient postage on it.
Once you found the cache, you will uncover many card pairs like this, each of them attached to each other with a clip. Now choose one of the card pairs, and exchange it for your own card pair (that should have a clip on it). Return the cache to its hideout, and then go home. There, you either put the written one of your two new postcards into the mailbox, or you place the pair of cards right into the next postcard cache, to mix up postcard delivery a little.
It is great to put postcards from a different place than the cache location into the cache. It is also great to mail the retrieved postcards from your home town - just imagine the receivers wondering why their friends send postcards from that town... ;-) You can exchange several pairs of cards at the same visit, of course.
The box also contains a log book.

May 18, 2003. PLEASE DO PREPARE POSTCARDS! This cache seems to turn into a "Oh-how-nice-its-right-on-I70-lets-TN/LN-it" geocache.

Have fun!
Klammeraffe

6th find of the day on our way from KC to Taum Sauk State Park, wish we had more time to explore this state park but I am sure we will be back, took Missouri state map, left some cards, like everybody else we found this about 40-50 feet south of the GZ after some searching, marked the location of the cache with our Garmin etrex Summit HC, this was our first find in Montgomery county and on page 39 of the Missouri DeLorme map, TFTC

WeRV wanted to see this cave and since we were staying just south of there, decided to drive over. Still cold and very wet. We went up to the cave via the trail by the waterfall. It was great! Rain was good for something. Got to cave and WeRV forgot his camera. So back to RV. Decided we would walk some of the trails, and since there was a cache nearby, thought we would try to find it. Still raining. iPhone doesn't work the best out here trying to find these things, but it does get us close. WeRV brought his Garmen running GPS, and using the iPhone to find the coordinates, and by letting Gaarmen tell us where we were, WeRV found this one. On our third trip out we got it. I think we got lucky, but we are counting it as a good find. Signed in and TNLN. This is a very nice state park. Go check it out.Thanks.

Stopped in on the way from STL to KC. Much thanks to the previuos cacher who noted the find as being 40 feet south of the posted position. Marmot had it more like 60 feet to the south, but no matter. Not being sure about the postcard directions and not having any postcards at hand, Marmot took nothing, but left a travel bug. Bugs are welcome in any cache, right?

Moore to the East #3 (5:09 PM)

A helpful hint from the logs helped locate this one. It's a bit off from the original coordinates but in a well-fitted spot keeping it out of prying muggle eyes. But do watch out for the spiders - a good walking or regular stick should help out with forging your path to ground zero.

Very cool idea. I left a pair of postcards (sorry they're not identical, but they highlight the same location) to keep this cache rolling. I hope one makes its destination one day. ^_^

Took a pair of postcards, left the same.

I grew up in Montgomery Co. and we used to visit Graham Cave State Park often. We were camping here this weekend. Our trial run with a 5th wheel camper we bought a few months ago. We found the cache after a 15 minute search of the area. I prepared and left 2 sets of postcards. There were none in the cache prepared to mail so we took nothing. Thanks for hiding this cache! from Fulton, MO

No luck on this one today. After reading the logs, it would appear I was looking in the wrong spot (even though the hint heavily suggests it). I'll give it another crack the next time I'm heading down I-70.

Took a new coordinate reading, if it will help someone: N 38 54.190, W 91 34.634. Took Turtle and Hare geocoin, Flipflop TB, and Washington TB. Left Route 66 geocoin. Thanks for the cache.

Grabbed this cache while doing the Shelter and Cedars multi cache. Last try was when the mosquitos were too heavy last year and we were afraid of bleeding out before getting to the cache. :)

Didn't prepare my postcards correctly so didn't take or leave any postcards. Did drop two TBs, The Flippy-Floppy TB and the Tortoise and Hare 2 TB.

As much as I hate to say it, I have to agree with BlueLamb, this cache may not be in the best place for geocoins, I have seen quite a few go missing from here, it's sad because the area is well worth the visit. Maybe it being strictly a postcard cache is best.

My MS coin seems to have been stolen from the cache back in June 2008, none of the logs after it mention taking it....
Too bad, yet another geocoin stolen.
From a quick read of the logs it seems this cache is 'found' easily by others, perhaps it's not a good one to leave travelers?

I noticed the previous log about the cache not being there, and was pretty surprised because I had JUST put a new ammo can with all new postcards some swag and a brand new geocoin in there. I happened to be in the neighborhood today and decided to stop in and verify that it was missing and sure enough it was not to be found. I brought along a replacement container just in case, hoping I didn't have to use it, but I did. So... the cache is there again, It's not EXACTLY where it was previously but in the very near area. I'm not the owner but I just happen to live not far from here and I like to check on my nearby cache, and this one is between waypoints on my multi.
Just remember Cache on and Cache often. ~ 57

Sorry to report that we could not find this little rascal. We gave the area a very thorough search within thirty or so feet of the given coordinates. Not many places there to hide anything large enough to hold very many postcards. We did not attempt the Graham Cave multi today so we will be back, hopefully with better luck the next time.

I was in the area doing cache maintenance on the nearby Shelter and Cedars cache and noticed the log of the condition of this cache. I stopped by and cleaned out the ruined postcards and miscellaneous goo that was in the destroyed ziplocs. I put in a new ziploc with a handfull of postcards and dropped off a geocoin to get it started on its journey. I should be by in the near future and will replace the container with an identical one with a better seal, I'll also put in a fresh logbook.

Got my postcards, got my stamps and set out to see this park. Then I ran circles while my GPS tried to get a fix. Must be easier in the winter when the trees are bare, but while they were in full leaf my GPS kept putting me about 50 feet from the actual location. Not a complaint - just want to let others know. I was glad for the hint and the adventure. I swapped postcards and will dutifully mail the others. Fun!

Crowesfeat30, Blue and I went out to New Florence today to help Cribbage Witch & Hobbit Taz try to teach a class to the Good Sam's Club people. It was a hard audience. But we had a great time out there at Lazy Days RV Campground, a really well kept place.

After lunch, we found this with a newcomer, who is to be known as Bird of Passage. I had been here before a long time ago, in the winter with snow on the ground, so this was almost as good as a new find but I'll settle for a note.

Mom, Son, and Dad were in Hermann early afternoon and stopped by this great park to visit the cave (and the cache) before heading back to St. Charles. Found the cache despite a jumpy GPSr.

Worth noting on the hike to visit Graham Cave (which is close in proximity to this cache but is an entirely separate hike) all three of us picked up a couple of ticks (of the Lone Star variety) we had to remove before heading home. Nonetheless, a beautiful area and we are happy we visited!

Good evening sarahjean.... I didn't realize you were maintaining this cache now. Oy! So, as we stated last week, we're back. We are indubitably cachers of our word! We luckily, albeit hastily, found some stamps at a Conoco station near the No Parking cache. $1.25 for two First Class Forever stamps. Ay caray! But it's for a good cause! Caching is the cause. We made our way down the highway and noticed we were running on fumes!! We also noticed several cops on the west bound side with supposed-speeders pulled over. Better them than...

As we prayed to God in our hearts and minds, as well as out loud, we thankfully saw a Sinclair station just ahead. Halleluia!! The hub pulled off and we filled up. On the way into the station, we noticed a State Trooper crouched behind the highway overpass wall, and he was clocking Westbound traffic!! IT WAS A WOLFPACK. Seriously, no fewer than 7 or 8 State Trooper-mobiles, and three of them were lined up, idling, on the west bound on ramp to catch speeders!! I was a bit alarmed, but the hub, in his infinite wisdom, reasoned with me that they were all saving lives by preventing speeders. He's such a boy scout. I, on the other hand, think it's because the end of the month and quotas gotta get made!! Cha-ching! $$$$ Mamma Bear need a new pair of shoes!

Perhaps this cache should be renamed "Speed Trap" or perhaps there's a golden opp to place a new cache near the Sinclair station and call it "Speed Trap" --- any takers?

After all that, we made our way down to the cache. It was SO muddy. Reminiscent of the weather in 1993 before all the big F-L-O-O-D-S hit STL and nearby areas. I left two post cards, both stamped (we don't use stamps at home, no....really....) and took spaceteacher's post cards. I'll mail them from downtown tomorrow (St. Louis post mark!). Took the hard muddy, terrain-y way in. And of course took the high road and easier way out.

Thanks for this special cache. This was our third post office cache. Tres bien!

In preparation for visiting to this cache, I created a couple of MRE post cards like the ones we used to send from overseas. They're made from the panel of a paperboard box out of a Meal, Ready to Eat (MRE). "Chicken patty, chunked and formed, with rib meat and imitation grill marks." Yum, yum! Found the cache at 1310, left my post cards, and took two other postcards and a wooden nickel from 57 Chevy for my signature item collection.

Most definitely one of most favorite cache areas so far. Lifelong residnets of Missouri with several trips a year across Hwy 70 and never thought of stopping here. So glad we did! We did things a bit backwards - found the cache stopped at the museum and then walked to the cave. MUST stop at the museum before going to the cave. Everything makes more sense that way. Agents in museum very friendly -- as Kyd sang a hearty tune in the restroom (much to N's chagrin) the ranger assured me that almost every kid who goes in there sings -- and adults have a tendency to whistle. Who Knew?!? Enjoyed the 1000 foot trail to the cave on the way up and took more direct route down. Didn't have postcards to exchanged and inadvertently left trade items in car -- SO TNLN -- but many thanks for the Cache!

"Sure" he says, "I'll set enough time aside to do a few caches on the way to KC. Hey, here's the first one, I'll just run onto the side road and grab it and be on my way."

Even though there's no real snow on the ground, what there is, somehow finds it's way into your shoes. It's the coldest day of the year so far, and you leave your gloves in the car. The cache is frozen to the ground, but a good kick frees it up. Sign the log, then back to the car, and inspect the damage.

- wet feet
- pants legs covered in burrs and thistles
- frozen fingers

All of that is OK, as you have 3 hours till that meeting in KC, and you just made find # 177. Don't you love it?TFTC!!!

An extremely satisfying find when we finally got to it, but those who are very sensitive to the plant whould either not visit or bring a change of clothes and shoes and a plastic bag for the contaminated ones. Julie and I were tempted to give up on this cache because the ticks and mosquitoes were so ferocious but we stuck it out and found it. We took the snowman card, which I will mail today. We left the Mizzou cards, but we forgot stamps so we will have to go back sometime soon.
(Note to PSWANK35: I believe that's a groundhog that is living in the cave. I've seen rabbits in there, too.)

The wife and I stayed in the park and really enjoyed the place. Paved roads with very nice camping areas. We saw some deer and there is a muskrat living in the cave. But don't worry, he is frendly. We used this as a base camp for our trips into Hermann, MO. for the Wurstfest. Had a great time. If you like wine and history Hermann is a good place to go. There are several Virtual caches and lots of Wineries. We left postcards and took a set. We'll get those mailed off. This cache was well off trail and is what I like for a challenge rather than 2 foot from the edge. It was raining and very soggy but fun. Thanks.

RocketmanC99 and I had a great time with this one. It took us quite awhile to find the entrance to Graham Cave. Went down the wrong road which deadended at some guys driveway. After finding the park, we had even more fun trying to locate the mailbox. This was a spur of the moment search. Wish we could have left a postcard. TNLN.

Was travelling from St. Louis with my best friend. As we travelled we talked about the GPS we both have and GeoCaching. My friend had never been on a cache hunt before and the next thing ya know, we were seeking caches in the area. Sorry Klammeraffe, but we hadn't planned on seeking caches and weren't prepared by having a post card. Thanks for the hide.

Took a few minutes to find this one. My coordinates must have been off a little. I "worked" the wrong area for a while but found quickly when I ranged out a little.

Didn't have any postcards to enter into the game. Probably should keep a few stamped cards in my geo-bag so I will be prepared next time.

Thanks! TNLN

This was the second Postcard Cache I've found. The first one was out in Nevada somewhere and I wasn't prepared. This time, I made sure we were. Took one of Kansas city cards left by CCDAWG and left a pair of OK Rt 66 cards. We are planning a trip to KY (for the Ham Fest) soon, will mail it somewhere enroute.
I think it would be nice to post the coordinates for the cave in the cache...

Bought postcards a few weeks ago and finally was able to come by and exchange them. We got a pair with one headed to Germany. This was a fun cache. After the cache we took the short walk up to the cave. I've been to the cave before, but had fun taking my five kids up to it. It's all fenced up so that you can't disturb the 'dig', but still very interesting. We also picnic'ed at the park and the kids played at the playground. Certainly a fun stop. Thanks Klammerafe and SarahJean.

Geocaching with Mean Gene and The Rooter on a sunny and hot August Saturday. Our first cache of the day. We scoped out the gate for Something's Fishy being open as we drove by. We found the cache easily enough and exchanged pairs of postcards.

Took a tour of the area driving around the empty parking lots -- and should have stopped in for at least a look at the cave entrance, but didn't do so this time. I guess a cache closer to the cave entrance is what we really needed to get us there. Thanks, Klammeraffe!

Caching with roelsch. This was the first cache of the day and it was perfect walking weather. We saw the geotracks break off from the trail and followed them to the cache. Took post cards and left post cards. Good job. Thanks, sarahjean, for maintaining this cache. – Mean Gene and the Rooter St. Louis MO

9:50 AM - First stop on the way to the geocaching picnic in Columbia. I've been to this park and cave many, many years ago, but this time it was just for the cache. Left a set of postcards from Black Hills SD and took a set to go to Nebraska. Neat idea and different from the trinket caches.

First time ever to find a mailbox cache. Took postcard and mailed. Talked to Sue at the office and she was very excited about the cache and very in favor of us placing them, but she would like to know about them, etc. She has even done a few caches herself. We did a service project here for her of picking some trash up, however, this was one of the cleanest parks I've been to. Thanks for placing this one. We stayed here last night. Our first night and cache to start our 10 day camping/caching trip to Omaha.

Does ANYONE ever consider to comply with this cache's rules? It is simple: don't visit it if you don't bring postcards!

I might start to delete logs for non-compliance to this caches' policy soon.

Many years ago we cycled from St. Peters and camped overnight at this park. Looks a lot different than I remember it, but we didn't spend very much time here this time. The park is full of hungry mosquitoes just waiting for some tasty humans. Hurried to cache was quickly as we could, signed the log, and scampered back to the car. Would love to spend more time here sometime--perhaps when the mosquitoes are gone. Thanks.

2400th find for me. Stopped by on way to Columbia for track meet. This is a cache for bug lovers... lots of blood thirsty bugs of the flying and of crawling varieties. Found cache with no problem... quickly signed the log and moved on before a transfusion was needed. Thanks for hiding this cache.

WARNING WARNING: High levels of blood thirsty mosquitos in this area. Come prepared to combat large herds of mosquitos and probably wouldn't hurt to be ready for a blood transfusion when you come back. Also - HIGH ALERT - for ticks (thousands of them). This is no joke!

Tim had 20-30 seed ticks on each leg which made him do some weird rain dance in the parking lot.

Otherwise - found without any problems. TN/LN

Thanks,

It was getting on towards twilight when we pulled up at this cache, and that's exactly the time that mosquitoes like to come out and feed. None of the previous logs had mentioned them, so we were unprepared to deal with the swarm of starving, bloodthirsty mosquitoes who had apparently been laying in wait for a couple of hapless geocachers to stumble by and give them a free meal.

We found the cache before too long, but it was all we could do to sign the log with one hand while slapping away mosquitoes with the other before making a dash back to the car. There's been plenty of rain lately so there's a lot of standing water in the area, which is probably why there's so many skeeters. I imagine it'll get better once things dry out, but in the meantime a little insect repellent goes a long way here.

This was a cool idea for a cache, and I wish we'd had some postcards to exchange. TN/LN - thanks!

Apparently we didn't remember this is a postcard cache and didn't bring postcards with us, but what a good idea, and probably I'll come back with a set of postcards when it's not the mosquito season.

The cache wasn't hard to find, but there were tons, tons, and tons of mosquitoes from the parking lot to the cache. So, those who are planning to visit this one probably want to be prepared.

It started to rain just as I pulled into the adjacent parking area. Located my poncho and being undaunted, I made a mad dash for the cache! Found it pretty quickly, but my feet got pretty soggy. TNLN. Signed the log in the rain and didn't take time to adequately explore the cache. Thanks for a wet diversion from driving. JL

We found this one on our way back home to Southern Illinois from Iowa. After driving for several hours, it was nice to stop, stretch and get a little exercise.
This is a really nice little park. We went up and saw the cave. Pretty cool!!!
We were'nt prepared with postcards, so we TN/LN, but we did sign the log.

Beautiful state park. We found the cache pretty quick then wandered up to the cave. Very pretty. I grabbed some shots of the local wildflowers. I took two postcards, one of which is headed to Salt Lake City. I'll mail it in a couple of weeks from Thailand! I left some cards, one addressed to my mother. [h5]Since sarajeane has graciously offered to help maintain your caches, congratulations, your cache has been approved! As a cache placer, you have the ability to improve (or degrade) the quality of Geocaching in your area. I hope that this cache will be a positive addition. Also, if permission needs to be asked for this area, I am assuming you have already done so. Enjoy!

Cheers & Thanks for continued contributions to Geocaching,
