Geocache Description:

This is the 1st cache in the Central Jersey Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge (GC2NYDC). Each of the 16 caches contains a single piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Your challenge will be to find each of the caches and assemble the puzzle to get further instructions on finding the challenge cache. Please don't take a puzzle piece unless you are planning to complete the entire series. Please report in your log if the number of puzzle pieces is getting low.

Each of these caches memorialize one of our favorite hides in Central Jersey. This one remembers the venerable, but now archived cache "The Teddy Roosevelt" (GC2CB6) by King Pellinore, aka. "A B C," the Ash Brook Cache (3.0/4.0). His cache was hidden on December 15, 2001, and was archived on August 25, 2004, after 10 finds and 10 DNFs. It was a tough cache to find!

Relative to the original, the size of the cache has been increased from a 35 mm to a 40 mm container.

Also, the location has been moved to be more easily accessible. From the parking area, follow the White Trail and charge up "San Juan Hill." The cache is a short distance off the trail, but you will need to choose your path well and cross the "Panama Canal" to avoid getting your feet wet. A big stick might come in handy!

If you are interested in the "full swamp experience" like the original, consider "Revenge On The King … Redux" (GC2PF18) (3.5/4.5), but only if you come prepared with hip boots or waders!

There actually was a Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. President Theodore ("Teddy") Roosevelt had 4 sons, Theodore Junior, Kermit, Archie, and Quentin (see The Roosevelt Family). The father of president Teddy Roosevelt was also named Theodore. When the man who became President Roosevelt was born, his father became Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. and the son Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. When TR's father died in 1878, he dropped the "Jr." and became simply Theodore Roosevelt. But then when TR's son was born, the son became Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. After President Roosevelt died, his son tried to drop the "Jr." designation just as his father had done. Eventually it became clear this would be too confusing. He kept the "Jr." and his son became Theodore Roosevelt, III.

Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. led a very distinguished life in his own right. He was a Brigadier General in World War II and died shortly after leading his troops in the Normandy Invasion. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery.

Congratulations to TheSurfcaster on FTF!
