Geocache Description:

When you look at a USGS topographic map of the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport area, you will see an abandoned rail road line that once ran as part of the Boston-Maine rail line around the turn of the century. It was a spur line that ran from the depot in Kennebunk, following the Mousam River to within a half mile of the beach, then cutting east ward along the beach areas ending close to Kennebunkport. It brought tourists directly to the beaches and resorts of the areas.

Today, the majority of the rail line is part of the "bridal path" which has several caches on it. Once the bridal path his present day Sea Road below Rt. 9, it ends because of a modern golf course in it's path. However, the old rail line can again be picked up on Boothby Road and followed to Kennebunk's "Lower Village".

If you look at a sat-images of the area, you can see the old rail line. And, you can make out the location of an old bridge which crossed the marshy stream area which sits in the center of the Rt.9-Rt. 35-Beach Street- Boothby Rd. square.

You will enter the old rail line path off of Forest Hill Lane and walk south-west towards the old bridge and the cache location.

Cache is a small sized water tight container holding some trinkets, and a log. Original cache contained an antique wrist worn "GPS" device that would have been used during the period that this rail line was active 100 years ago. This is the FTF prize.

Enjoy, and happy caching!
