The Forest of Calydon Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kirok: How things change in only a few years. The path to the cache is a muddy mess, and the tree the cache was in is now completely rotted to the ground, leaving the cache hidden under a pile of rotting wood, and no longer winter friendly. Went out today to finally put it out of it's misery. The container (and bow) have now been removed. Thanks to all who found it!

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above coordinates.

I am a child of the Saturday morning cartoon phenomenon. Getting up at 06:00 and spending hours watching Godzilla, Spiderman & His Amazing Friends, Blackstar, classic Spiderman, Rocket Robin Hood, Battle of the Planets (G-Force), and yes, The Mighty Hercules. Despite all its flaws, Hercules was one of my favourites.

Sure, it’s predictable, the animation is poor, and the villains are so stupid they make Dr. Evil look like Einstein. The show has some good qualities though, including the "good guys always win" stories, a cool theme song that I can still sing all the lyrics to this day, and best of all the cool magical gadgets. Whether it's The Mask of Vulcan, The Invisibility Potion, The Magnetic Stone, or even those cool Moon Stone Beams that signaled for Hercules, there were always cool artifacts “cached” around the kingdom and forest of Calydon.

Hercules himself kept a cache of items hidden in the forest, that his faithful sidekick Newton always had the pleasure of finding. Both Herc’s trusty bow and his overweight club were somehow always a short gallop away for the little centaur, allowing Herc to defeat many monsters and villains quickly. Even as a kid I thought, “That forest must be really small for him to find the bow so quickly” Yet despite its small size, the forest contained an endless amount of magical “junk”.

Walking through a small forested area near my home, the memory of that show popped into my head when I thought “There’s so much junk in hear, I’ll probably stumble across Herc’s bow in one of these trees”. I chuckled and dismissed it at first, but later thought it would be an interesting, albeit silly cache idea.

You can park on the street at the posted coordinates.

To find Herc's bow and the cache, you’ll need to read his native language:
