Geocache Description:

A simple hide located at a scenic overlook on scenic Rt 30.

Years ago before the PA Turnpike existed, the only way for travelers to go from Philly to Pittsburgh and further west was by Driving along Rt 30.

If you've ever driven this road before, you'll know that it is one to do when you are awake and alert, as there are many hills, sharp turns, and potential wipeout points.

Now, the drive can be done within 6 hours, but in the 30's it was an all day affair. As such, there was a need for hotels so that the weary might rest, the hungry to eat, and for all to refill their gas tanks.

Now, in the mid 20's, a Dutch immigrant by the name of Herbert Paulson built the first gas station and permanent structure here. Over the next few years, it was built into a hotel, and in the early 30's he built a much larger hotel, that looked something like this......

The cache is a decon container. It is my 100th hide, I was going to leave $100, but I couldn't afford that, so I left a dollar in quarters for the FTF. There is no need to go down the hill, or on the sign, not in either of those places. It is however, just up hill from the sign and closer to the road. >

One last thing, from this overlook, you can see 3 states and 7 counties, so if the weather is on your side and there is no haze, bring a camera, there are some great views.
