Geocache Description:

The Lake Brandt trails are wonderful. When I get a chance, I enjoy running on them. This Wherigo cartridge cache will bring some of that joy to you--and a workout.  It's springtime, so let's get back on the trails and into shape!

The Challenge
It is approximately 2.2 trail miles to "The Outback" cache from the Bur-Mill Owl's Roost Trailhead.  How fast can you get to "The Outback"?  This Wherigo cartridge is set up as a "time attack" to "The Outback", giving people only 39 minutes 16 seconds to complete the journey/workout.

Legs
The time attack is divided into eight legs that are usually .3 miles apart.  The location's description for each leg will show the trail distance and time to the next leg.  While doing a leg, you will see in your Location menu three locations: your destination (the location beginning with "E"), the start of the current leg (beginning with "S", so you can restart the current leg if you'd like), and the number of seconds remaining.  Once you arrive at a leg, you may rest for as long as you wish.  The cartridge will automatically save so your progress is not lost and you can resume at that particular leg any time you wish.  Should you fail to make it to a leg on time, you will have to backtrack and try again.  There is no penalty for failing a leg, save having to try again.

You only need to approach within 40 feet of a location for it to note your arrival.  However, since you're running, your GPSr may be less than accurate at times.  So, as you approach a leg, slow down and let your GPSr catch up.  The Colorado 400 I tested with had this problem, but the Oregon 400 did not.

Feel free to use a bicycle if you're up for the technical challenge provided by the Owl's Roost trail.  You are also free to bushwhack if you feel an off-trail approach can save you time.

The Times Used
I ran to "The Outback" cache and kept a track log.  The times are derived from that, with 15% and 20 seconds extra added to each leg.  My actual time, without stopping, was 30:28.  During each leg, I walked for half the distance and ran for the other half.  I afforded myself no rest period, so the stages should get easier as you go along and I tired.  Also, I paused long enough at each leg marker to snap coordinates, adding more time to the leg.

Cartridge Testing
This cartridge has been tested with a Colorado 400 and Oregon 400 and has been proven stable.  If you have any problems, please let me know.
