Geocache Description:

[RO]

[EN]

- The whole beauty is to be there around noon, when the place is crowded with students. But this also means lot of muggles. Or you may choose to go caching early in the morning or in the evening when the place is much quiet.

- On may 12, 1919, the Romanian University of Cluj was set up, assuming, more or less, the tradition of other academic institutions, beginning in 1581. The courses were inaugurated on November 3, 1919, king Ferdinand I solemnly proclaiming the university open on February 1, 1920. In 1940, as a result of the territorial revision imposed by the then Germany and Italy, the Romanian university was moved to Sibiu and Timisoara, and the Hungarian university was brought from Szeged to Cluj. After World War II, once the Vienna Dictate was abrogated, the Romanian university returned to Cluj and took the name of bacteriology scientist "Victor Babes". In 1945 the Romanian authorities established in Cluj the Hungarian university named after prominent mathematician "Janos Bolyai". The two universities were reunited in 1956 under the name Babes-Bolyai University, where the teaching was being done in Romanian and Hungarian. The educational and research activity is carried out by a teaching staff of over 1,275 and provides courses for more than 56,000 students, of which more than 3.500 are doctoral students. With its 21 faculties, it offers long and short-term academic studies for 111 specializations (99 in Romanian, 59 Hungarian, 16 German, 8 English, 1 French, 1 Italian, 2 Ukrainian). Thus Babes-Bolyai University is now the most diversified (in terms of specializations) and the most complex higher education institution in Romania.
