Geocache Description:

The cache is a black magnetic key holder with standard paperwork, but no pen.
It is not at the posted coordinates, but it is within 4 miles.

Rome, 1582 CE.

Julian had an astronomical problem on his hands. His outspoken rivals, Dr. Lilius and his potentate Gregory, had been very successful in gathering support to orchestrate a hostile takeover of Julian's global operations. They had very compelling reasons for world leaders to join their position. Their argument: It was time for a change. Julian had made too many errors over the years. He leaped to conclusions too often. He was behind the times. He was always late, and he was arriving later and later as time went on. His basic math skills were in question. (There was actually evidence that it took him over fifty years to learn to count to four.) And his sense of timing always seemed, well, off.

If Julian had any hopes of maintaining his status-quo, he needed supporters. If only he had made some minor adjustments earlier, the situation might have been different. But he was quite rigid, even dogmatic, and not one to negotiate. In a final desperate act, he sent the following coded message to every ally he thought he still had:

Meet next vernal equinox.
Utilize JD229xxxx;NOON:UT.
8886 8921 8943 8982 9012
9038 9066 8884 8916 8943
8978 9007 9041 9071 9096

Julian's days were indeed numbered. In the end, his actions failed. He was again too late and out of synch with the universe. The great council had already been held. The decree had already been made. On October 4, Julian was overthrown. The very next day, October 15, Gregory's time began.

Update 4/2/04: Cache is in a new location, not too far from the original. It's definitely in a busier spot, but I suspect it's more secure.
