Hudson Highlights: Troy (Downtown) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

BriGuyNY: Unfortunately (or maybe not for some... Haha), this old multi is done. It was my first attempt at placing a multi, and it inspired a great series that really took off after I relocated downstate. I loved coming up with the idea of reverse coordinates that required a mirror, and even better is that, because of this cache, I also learned how to write backwards. I especially enjoyed the difficulty level with some stages, but along with that meant additional care and maintenance that I've been unable to provide since moving out of town over 6 years ago.

Special congrats to all who managed to complete this crazy multi of mine, and a huge thank you to TroyHills for being an invaluable resource to the happenings of Troy's downtown district, including the status of every stage that was still in play, and performing maintenance in my absence.

As it turns out, the final has gone missing again, and new construction plans threaten this multi from continuing any longer. When I set this up, the riverfront felt pretty dismal, and it's great to hear that change is continuing to happen. I remember that was certainly the vibe downtown when I lived there from 2007-2010, as it had just started to turn things around.

Here's to bigger and better things in the future, including new geo real estate to the locals, once the city's projects are completed of course. Keep calm, and cache on!

Geocache Description:

Ever walk along a river and experience a photographic moment? How about delving into the past and thinking about the importance of what used to be there? Well read on!

Here in downtown Troy I am placing the first of what will hopefully be many urban multi-stage caches located anywhere along the edge of the Hudson river that are titled "Hudson Highlights" and can be accessible by foot and/or bicycle. The entire purpose of this cache (and others, if people would like to continue my idea in their own towns) is to simply enjoy a stroll along the Hudson.

This particular multi picks up at the beginning (or end) of a walkway near Troy's historic River Street and brings you northbound against the current within view of 3 separate bridges that feed traffic in and out of the city. You will need your GPS of course, but also a mirror would be very helpful to complete this. Bring some paper and a writing utensil to jot down coordinates. You'll also be glad to bring your camera too for some good photo opportunities.

Most stages are just visual, and stealth is an absolute must! You may have to wait a good amount of time for certain stages to be accessible. You will only find a container at the final, which is at a secluded location. The number of stages? I don't know, you'll have to find out! Please don't disclose that information or the hiding technique in your logs, but do speak of your adventure and some interesting things you may find along the way.

Enjoy Troy!
