ＪＲ上越線後閑駅から600m ほど北西の地点にこの千日堂があります。
沼田領主の悪政で苦しむ領民を、命をかけて救った月夜野の杉木茂左衛門。
直訴したことにより磔になった茂左衛門を祀られています。
春と秋の彼岸の縁日には参拝者で賑わいを見せています。
キャッシュは、千日堂の参道入口付近に隠しました。
