This block was the home of Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company where my Grandpa worked after he returned from the war and my Father was employed here when he was just 15 years old. PDM assisted with the building of some high profile structures like the St. Louis Arch in 1963, the Ruan Center in 1974, 801 Grand Tower in 1991, and thousands of other items not to mention almost every bridge in the metro and then some.
On July 8th, 1993 PDM was surrounded by flood waters and had to close it's doors. After the water receeded, there was too much damage and PDM shut their doors forever and filed for bankrupcy.
