KC AREA HISTORY TOUR Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

byonke: Well, the event has been over for a bit and was much more of a success than we had hoped.

With any luck this will be resurrected as a permanent cache. We'll see.

Thanks to all who attended.

Geocache Description:

Date: October 14, 2006
Time 8:00AM - Buffet Breakfast at coordinates listed above.

Come and join us in a unique, well-documented tour introducing you to some of the people whose lives was an interesting part of the history within six counties in the Greater Kansas City area. This tour will provide you with stories, facts, and corresponding coordinates that will introduce you to some of those who were early settlers in this area along with politicians, gangsters, heroes and ruffians and those who fought in our wars (Revolutionary, 1812, Civil, both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq). You will get to see places where some of them lived, as well as their final resting places.

More information and places to visit will be provided than you will be able to see in one October day. After breakfast you are on your own to visit as many tour stops that interest you in the historic tour booklet. With each point to visit, there will be a question to answer. At 5:00PM you will return to the final coordinates, which will be given in the tour book. At that time we will gather together again and share with each other what you have learned and your tour experiences. And, of course, what event would be complete without a few prizes, a yummy meal, as well as a trackable coin commemorating this historic tour.

For all the tour stops you didn't have time for, there will be enough material for an individual or family outings for months to come. We have been gathering historical information for months. We even have some historical societies and museums interested in our findings and asking for copies. We hope you also will have an enlightened experience as you visit the tour stops.

The first 50 people to register and attend will receive the trackable coin commemorating the event. The coins will be passed out after the 5:00PM check in. For those that would like to preload their receivers, the waypoints will be made available online the night before. If this is your first visit to the PTOC site, you will need to create a free account.

Registration cost is $12.00. Late registration after 9:00 PM Wed. Oct. 11th will be $15.00.

Cost for the meal is $3.00 per person ages 12 to ?? Kids eat FREE.

Extra books will be available for $5.00. Extra coins will be for sale after the 5:00PM check-in. Those that don't receive a coin for registering will have first opportunity to purchase a coin.

The fine folks at the Possum Trot Orienteering Club were gracious enough to allow us to use their registration site. We will be able to pre-register and pay the fees with paypal in advance by using their site. This will make things much easier on Saturday morning. If this is your first visit to the PTOC web site you will need to create a free account. Click HERE to register online.

Please put this on your watch list for further details and changes.
