Geocache Description:

Old ski cabin at Voksenkollen, Oslo

The first ski club in Oslo (and probably the oldest existing skiclub in the world) is Christiania Skiklubb, which was established in 1877. It has its own cabin at Frønsvollen
geocache Mor # 3 - Frønsvollen.

The Ull ski club was established in 1883, sort of as a spin off from Christiania Skiklubb. While the ski administrators were members of Christiania, the active skiers were members of Ull. The first "Damenes pokal" in the Huseby-rennene, was won by a member of Ull in 1883; Johs. Beckholm - "den kjækkeste Skiløber fra Christiania by".

The Ull skiclub is still active, and has member meetings every month.

According to Norse mythology, Ydale is the home of the god Ull. Ull is the god for skiing and hunting. Thus; Ydale was the obvious name when Ull built their cabin at Voksenkollen in 1892. The location at the top of Voksenkollen was then very far away from the city. The access got very much easier when the Holmenkollbanen was prolonged to Frognerseteren in 1916. It's a few hundred metres walk from Voksenkollen station. If one arrive by car, it can be parked there at Voksenåsen hotell, which is now just next to the cabin.
