Cuthill Park is a large, but largely neglected, public park in much need of a horticultural hug and a few more visitors.
The Friends of Cuthill Park have ambitious plans to regenerate the area.
The park has many slopes and curves, some quite steep.
The container is a small lidded tin. It contains very small loot and a wee log book.
*Travel bugs are not recommended for this cache.*
In it's heyday, Cuthill (rhymes with 'Skittle') Park was host to Gala Days and athletic events. Today it is the venue for the annual Mural Fest (part of the 3 Harbours Arts Festival) when artists paint a mural based on a poem by local artist. The name of this cache is taken from John Lindsay's poem which was the theme for the 2010 muralfest.
THE DAY THE PARK SMILED
Lit up with the art
of their Gala Day parade
the whole town, it seemed
wound to Cuthill Park
where banners and bands
painted the proud face of coal
with a Candyman's grin.
Lean lads raced the flat
or showed their whippets and coal-birds.
Married wummen ran 100 yards
while children sword-danced
or did the coal-quiz.
And 'Pans own Frances Rowan,
Scottish Miners Coal Queen
held court over
the Park that smiled.
John Lindsay, Poet Laureate
