Geocache Description:

Located on public land. Consists of a small plastic container with a screw-on lid. Contains a logbook, pencil with a sharpener and some misc. trinkets.

On 9-17-05 I checked on status of the cache. Not only is it undisturbed in its original location, but 3 geocachers have signed the logbook! Congratulations, I salute you!
The terrain is not difficult at all, anybody can find it with no special equipment or skill. You just need to be able to read your GPS and hike uphill. There is a path leading right up to it.

Will require a bit of a uphill hike. I wouldn't call the terrain difficult, but you have to be able to walk about a third of a mile, mostly uphill.

The first two searches have indicated that this cache might have some problem with its coords. I very slightly updated the coords. on 4-24-05, they are accurate. I gave one of my GPS's to my 10 year old and she walked right to it no problems. I will say that my two GPS's (both are Garmin GPS III Pilots) are quite accurate and I have never had a problem with them. I was tracking 9 satellites when updating the coords. When the cache was placed, both GPS's indicated that I was within 9' of it. Well within tolerance of a handheld GPS.

The cache is not near the RR tracks, Do not walk along the RR tracks, it is uphill of the trail on the northeast side of the bluff, it is 7/8's of the way to the top. Use the 'North' hiking trail. It is very well hidden and will require some reasonably serious climbing, no ropes are nessesary, but if you are 50 pounds overweight, this cache is not for you.

During winters the City of Red Wing closes the trails on Barn Bluff. I am told that there are still people that use the trails anyway as it is so beautiful up there in the winter. I shouldn't have to remind you that if you decide to search for the cache during trail closures, you must do so at your own risk. The reason they close the trails in the winter is because some of the trails become slippery with ice (Duh, it's winter) and they worry about clumsy people falling and hurting themselves. I guess they want us all to stay indoors where it is safe.

Good luck! Comments in the logbook say it is a great spot!
