Geocache Description:

This is a micro (log only, bring your own pencil) in a key hider magnetic container.

This is another cache in a series of brilliant PR moves by the Taft Chamber of Commerce (see If Ya Lived in Taft... for another example of good intentions, bad advertising).

It seems that the Chamber thought it would be a good idea to encourage some tourism through Taft. They realized the Carrizo Plain National Monument is about 20 miles northwest of town and a hot tourist spot! By labeling Taft "The Gateway to the Carrizo Plain" I guess people will just start flocking to Taft on their way out to see the brush and tumbleweeds of the Carrizo Plain.

For some reason I am a little skeptical with this plan, but it gives me another chance to laugh at what great advertisement our city is getting. That is right. Taft is moving up in the world. We used to be associated with racist hicks and drug addicts, but now, we are the Gateway to the Carrizo Plain!!! I feel much better.

This cache is your typical hidden key box micro. It is a log only so bring your own pencil. Be sure to put it back exactly how you found it as if it comes out of place, it will most likely get muggled. This is a pretty busy intersection, so picking it up at night would be easier. If you are going to go in the day, just pretend you are taking a picture of someone under the sign (this is a tourist spot you know!) and get the cache from there.
