Geocache Description:

Terrain is fairly flat on public footpaths. The road has no pavement and can get busy, so those with children please take extra care. You may have to do some 'homework' prior to attempting this cache.

This cache is located in the north Hampshire countryside between Basingstoke and Alton, close to Lasham Airfield.

Lasham Airfield was built by the RAF in 1942 and was home to numerous squadrons of Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mosquitoes and Typhoons until 1948 when it became a civilian airfield. Lasham is now home to the largest gliding centre in Europe. You will almost certainly see gliders taking off and landing at close range during your trip, especially if it's a nice day. Also based here is 'ATC Lasham' who are a Boeing maintenance specialist, so you'll also likely see various Boeing jets in for repair.

This is a 4 part offset multicache, meaning you'll need to find some numbers along the route and substitute these for the coordinates of the cache locations.

Our cache starts in the top corner of the airfield at a small outdoor aircraft museum (N 51°11.380 - W 1°01.229). Parking is usually available here but the bar across the carpark entrance is sometimes locked. If so, you can park right across the road at N 51°11.415 - W 1°01.135. Even if the bar is locked, you can still just duck under it and wander around the museum... I checked with the owners of the museum and it's both allowed and expected as the museum is often unmanned and they only unlock the bar when they're in. If you're a bit shy then you can still 'see' everything you need to from the roadside outside the museum. Even though this road is not a 'main road' as such, it can get quite busy and doesn't have a pavement, so those with children please take extra care !!!

OK... on with the cache details.

On the various aircraft, you will see the usual selection of registration letters and numbers. You will need to note these, BUT ONLY THE NUMBERS. For example, if you see WX357 on the aircraft, then you ONLY want 357.

We will be using the letters A - Z (but not using 'O' to save on confusion), which you must associate with the relevent numbers and then substitute them into the cache coordinates. Letters X,Y and Z are not on the aircraft, but can be found along the way at parts 2 and 3 of this multicache. You will NOT need to climb any fences, etc, as this multicache can be found entirely by public footpaths/roads.

Part one:

Coordinates N 51°11.380 - W 1°01.229

You will see the following aircraft. Note their numbers. To make it more difficult (as if you really needed that!) you'll either need to 'know your aircraft' or do a little research before you go so that you know what each aircraft looks like!... There may be information boards about the planes, but often there isn't... It depends on the day!

Westland Wessex - ABC
Hawker Sea Hawk (Wing) - DEF
Hawker Sea Hawk (Body) - GHI
Lockheed Starfighter - JKLM
Auster - NPQ
Gloster Meteor - RST
Hawker Hunter - UVW

Part two:

Coordinates N MP°PP.BEE - w P°GP.GDD

Here you will find a small concrete post with two letters and two numbers on it. What are the two numbers? - XY
What is this post for?... I have no idea!

Part three:

To get to the footpath you'll need to take a short walk (about 600 yards) along the road. For those with children, you may prefer (for safely reasons) to drive the short distance and park at Humbly Grove Oilfield, N 51°11.470 - W 1°00.707

Coordinates N MP°TP.VXG - W P°GG.YSG

Here you will find a signpost. How many 'Bridleways' are there?... Double this number and add to it the number of 'Byways' - Z

Part four (The cache):

Coordinates N MP°TG.AQG - W P°GG.ZSJ

You should find an medium sized ammo box which when placed contained some nice items for the early finders. There's a bit of an aviation theme in the cache. If you can keep to it then great... If you can't, don't worry.
