Rattlesnake Lodge was built in 1903/04 as a summer home for Dr. Chase P. Ambler. Dr. Ambler came to Asheville as a young medical school graduate and established himself here as a specialist/physician. In the first 3 years, 41 rattlesnakes were killed on the property; Dr. Ambler would pay $5 for any rattlesnake brought to him. The ceiling in the living room of the house was made of snake skin. There were numerous buildings on the property, and the remains of many can still be seen on the way to the cache. Minor bushwacking near the actual cache site. Cache is in a clear tupperware container with a white lid - inside are an assortment of goodies. ENJOY! Length of hike- approximately 1.85 miles each way.
