Dieser 32 Meter hohe Leuchtturm war niemals ein Seezeichen sondern wurde als Teil der von Stefanos Lazaridis geschaffenen Kulisse für die Seebühne der Bregenzer Festspiele errichtet. In den Jahren 1989 und 1990 wurde Richard Wagners "Fliegender Holländer" gespielt. In diesem Stück stürzt am Ende Senta ins Meer und dies wurde vom Regisseur David Pountney als spektakulären Sturz vom Leuchtturm in den Bodensee inszeniert. Danach kam der Leuchtturm nach Wien und wurde beim ersten IMAX-Kino neben dem Technischen Museum aufgestellt. Im Jahr 1997 ließ ihm der Gastronom Carl Hofbauer um 1,2 Mio. Schilling als Wahrzeichen für die gegenüber der Copa Cagrana (heute: "Copa Beach") gelegenen Lokalmeile Sunken City (heute: "Die Insel") auf die Donauinsel übersiedeln. Der ursprüngliche Plan ihn als Aussichtsturm zu nutzen konnte jedoch nicht verwirklicht werden. Stattdessen dient der Turm für diverse Mobilfunkbetreiber als Sendeanlage, weil so das Verbot der Errichtung von Mobilfunksendemasten auf der Donauinsel umgangen werden konnte. Ein umlaufendes LED-Band wurde für Werbezwecke genutzt; einige Zeit lang konnte man darauf SMS-Nachrichten als Laufschrift darstellen lassen. Außerdem dient der Leuchtturm als Standort für Wetter- und Stadtbildkameras des ORF.

This lighthouse is 32 meters hight and was never used as a navigation mark. In 1989 and 1990 Richard Wagner's "Flying Dutchman" was performed at the lake stage of the Bregenz Festival and Stefanos Lazaridis designed the lighthouse as part of the stage setting. At the end of this opera Senta throws herself into the sea. Director David Pountney staged this scene as a spectacular fall from a lighthouse into Lake Constance. After that the lighthouse was placed at the IMAX theater next to the Technical Museum in Vienna, not far from Schönbrunn Palace. In 1997 the lighthouse moved on the Danube Island as a landmark for the culinary scene "Sunken City" (now called "Die Insel") situated opposite the "Copa Cagrana" (now called "Copa Beach"). The original plan to use the lighthouse as a lookout could not be realized. Instead, the tower is used for various mobile operators as a transmitter, because the prohibition of the erection of mobile phone masts on the Danube Island could be bypassed. An all-around LED ribbon was used for advertising purposes. In addition, the lighthouse serves as a location for weather and city cameras for the ORF, the Austrian national broadcaster.
