Geocache Description:

Another Geocache at a Trig Point and an ideal spot for a little "science" along with the normal geocaching activities. (Note: Geodrift measurements should be carried out at the trig itself NOT at the final Cache location!)

Have you ever wondered about the accuracy of your GPS and why the co-ordinates for a cache never seem exactly right?

This cache has been set up not only to find, but also to help in a scientific study into the deviation of GPS position measurements.

Please take the time to log the co-ordinates of the TRIG (not the Cache location!) and note the number of satellites you are receiving and also altitude if possible. These details can then be recorded via the web site at "Geodrift.com"

A visit to the web site will also explain how & why measurements can vary by several metres. Earlier problems with entering data in feet are supposed to have been rectified but it's probably better to convert your readings to metres before entering them on the website. The "Station" number required is the same as the ID Number for this cache - i.e. GC168BA.

About the Cache
Short term parking available on Captains Hill (not on the main road, but down the little sliproad in front of the houses). From the parking, head to the footpath (see waypoints).

Follow the path through the woods. Emerge into field at approx N 52 13.375 W 1 51.548.

Clue 1 - How many 'ways' are you on, according to the footpath discs on the gatepost at the entrance to the wood? F

The field rises up a bank. At top of bank, the Trig is visible. Go to trig and do the science bit!

Clue 2 - What number is on the Trig? SABCD

Standing at the Trig, with the brass ID plate facing you, look slightly to the right toward the industrial estate.

Clue 3 - On the warehouse with triangular blue gables, how many blue gables are there? E

Now find the Cache, located at:
