Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as our way of congratulating 2qwerqE on reaching 500 finds. We appreciate the caches she has put out and the enthusiasm that she brings to caching. This is a back to basics cache and we know that T enjoys those as well - nice walk in the woods with a 2 quart thermos as your goal. We enjoy this area of Eagle Creek and in winter you should have a good view of the lake from the cache location.

Parking for this cache is at N39.51.173 W086.18.642 (gate is locked at 8:30pm). NOTE: PARKING LOT IS CLOSED DEC THRU FEB EACH YEAR. THE CLOSEST PARKING MAY BE THE PARKING FOR OUR OLD HOMESTEAD CACHE, AND THAT IS REALLY A LONG HIKE TO THE CACHE SITE. Start at the trail beside the donor memorial at N39.51.235 W086.18.638. There are many branches off this trail and the trail is not marked but bushwacking is not really required for this with judicious trail selections. Our GPS indicated that we walked about .9 miles from the cache back to our car in the parking lot. Cache is an thermos placed about 15 feet off the trail. Please rehide it well so that it will not be muggled. Enjoy the peaceful walk through the woods and the views of the resevoir as you go.

5/31/09 - I read where we say that "with judicious trail selections" there's little bushwacking. When we visited the cache today we must not have made judicious selections as we bushwacked far more than I wanted to. We crossed one stream 3 or 4 times, sloshed through water standing in a swampy area, and finally found the trail right before we got to the cache. I am now adding a point that is the trail going across the levy - hitting this trail makes your walk A LOT easier! Also when you cross an old road running east to west, go east to the end of it and then follow the trail there heading for the levy trail coords. While I realize that many people have found this without all this info, we have never had so much trouble as we had today so I want to spare future finders from making the wrong decisions if I can!
