Geocache Description:

Shinagawa-juku (or 'shuku' in pronunciation) was the first station of the Tokaido-gojusantsugi (Fifty-three stations of the Tokaido). It is presently located in Shinagawa Port area near Shinagawa Station, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan.

Shukuba (or Shuku) were post stations during the Edo period in Japan, generally located on one of the Edo Five Routes or one of its sub-routes.
They were also called shukueki. These post stations (or 'post towns') were places where travelers could rest on their journey around the nation. They were created based on policies for the transportation of goods by horseback that were developed during the Nara and Heian periods.
There were various facilities in each Shukuba.
Honjin is one of the main facilities located in the shukuba, was an inn for Feudal lord and direct retainer of the shogun, government official of shogunate, Imperial prince or their agent.
The Shinagawa Honjin was a small park now. I set a cache in this park there are explain signboards, monuments, and old well, etc..
Moreover, you can see the temples, shrines, and shops etc. succeeded from old Tokaido in the shopping street around here.
