NEO GeoPoker Run 2014: Movies & TV Edition Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Chris K in Geauga: Thanks to everyone who came out to make this a great caching event, and for all of the fantastic photos from around the park and the groovy pics with Mr. Powers. I greatly appreciated all of the effort from everyone who helped me unload my poor overstuffed vehicle in the morning and who assisted with the cleanup at the end of the day.

Special thanks to CapFantasy for helping everyone get the cache coords loaded on their GPS devices, to junebug60 for grading the quizzes and for all her help throughout the day, and to LuvWahoo for distributing the special card prizes.

I hope everyone had a good time. This event is history!! Yeah, baby!!!

Geocache Description:

Many thanks to park manager Chip Manyo and Punderson State Park for allowing and promoting geocaching in this beautiful park, and for permitting this special caching event!

Come on out for some caching fun and enjoy the fantastic fall colors at Punderson State Park in beautiful Geauga County! The amazing reflective photo of the Punderson lodge was taken by phil/nichole at last year's event.

If you plan on attending the Poker Run and playing a GeoPoker hand, please post a Will Attend log as soon as possible so that we can get an estimate of the number of players and hands for prize planning purposes.

This event will feature 16 temporary caches hidden along the many wooded and scenic trails in the park. You may log each of the temp caches that you find if you like.  You will need to find at least five of the seven card caches to build your poker hand. Finding all seven card caches, as well as a joker card, may greatly improve your poker score. The poker theme will be used to determine the order in which players may choose a prize.

The prizes this year will include many different motion picture and TV-related items, as well as some great geocoins and other geocaching and non-geocaching items, along with some special surprises.  Each of the caches will have a movie or TV type theme, including a few simple puzzle caches that can be solved without a great deal of movie or TV knowledge.

Don’t know anything about playing poker? Don’t worry! Instructions will be provided. If you can find caches, you can play GeoPoker!

The event coordinates are for the Marina Shelter which is along the park road that leads to the campground. The shelter has been reserved for the entire day and there is plenty of parking nearby. The event details are below, and please note that all times listed are absolute. Although the temporary caches will be available to be found by all cachers throughout the day, you must sign up by 12 Noon and return all cards by 3 PM to be eligible for a prize.  Cachers may sign the event logbook when they arrive, and anyone who stops by the shelter at any time during the event may claim an "Attended" log, even if they do not wish to play GeoPoker.

Please be sure to obey all park rules during the event, including the speed limit, and park only in designated areas. Parking is not allowed on the grass.

10 AM-12 Noon – Sign up for a poker hand at the Marina Shelter. You will be given a small envelope to keep your cards clean and dry.
A donation of $5 per hand is requested to help defray the cost of prizes. A poker hand may be played by an individual cacher, a couple, or a team of cachers. The temporary caches may be logged by all cachers who find them, even if they team up to play a single hand.
There will also be another fun (or maybe not so fun) Chris K quiz to complete for a chance to win a special prize. After you complete your quiz, you will receive your poker run instructions and a list of the cache coordinates and you may begin caching immediately.  Hopefully we will be able to send the cache coordinates directly to your GPS unit via a GPX file.  If your GPS unit uses an unusual connector cord to transfer coordinates, please bring it along with you.

3 PM - All poker and joker cards must be returned by 3 PM.

3:15 PM-3:30 PM - Once all cards are returned, the final scores will be determined and prize distribution will begin sometime between 3:15 and 3:30 PM. All eligible players must be present to choose a prize.

4 PM - If all goes well, the prizes will be distributed by 4 PM when the event ends.

After the event, cachers may stay in the park and hunt for the permanent caches, including a night cache. The park closes at 11 PM.
