The nearby trail up from the Hairpin (aka Valley's End) was one
of my favorite training runs back in my marathon and trail running
days. That one mile climb, with several false summits, always was a
challenge. It was my gauge on how well I was doing in my training.
Can't say I ever dominated it, but if we came to terms I knew I was
doing well.
This spot was where I would sometimes stop for a breather before
heading to Upper Wildcat Canyon or to the Vista area below. The
views are nice and most hikers use the single track trail
below.
