We are going for a Canal Boat trip from Llangollen
Wharf N 52° 58.320 W 003° 10.212, this is not a cache event
just my way of celebrating my birthday with friends.
Please feel free to join us on the trip if you would like to. It
would be a lovely way of celebrating my 50th birthday, I wanted to
do something daring (for me that is, most of you know how I hate
heights). I have walked across the aqueduct a couple of times
(reluctantly) but I have never been across on a boat and as I
wanted to challenge myself this is what Mark and I have decided we
are going to do.
The event proper will be in the Royal Hotel Bar Llangollen N
52° 58.227 W 003° 10.204 at approx 15.00hrs where we
will be swopping TB's, stories etc. Any geocachers from anywhere in
the world are welcome to attend whether joining us on the boat trip
or not, please log your intentions below.
We have now booked 32 adult and 1 child places on the 2 hour
trip on the Thomas Telford narrowboat for our trip on
the 19th August 2006.
The narrowboat can accomodate up to 52 passengers so there is
still plenty room for anyone else who wishes to join us.
The trip leaves from the Canal Wharf in Llangollen at
12.15.
We will travel through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen and
across the famous
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which towers 126 feet above the River
Dee.
There is a live and informative commentary throughout the trip,
refreshments are served on board and a bar is open throughout your
journey for anyone wishing to partake.
Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access on this boat.
The cost of the 2 hour trip is £7.00 per adult/OAP and £5.50
per child under 12 this is a specially discounted price the
normal price per adult/OAP is £9.00 and £7.00 per child under 12
years old.
Once across the aqueduct the boat moor's up and we are returned
to Llangollen on a curtesy coach. We should arrive back for
15.00.
We are then moving on to the Royal Hotel where we can
swop TB's, stories and generally have a good chin wag about
Geocaching.
I am assured that some Real Ales will be on sale (for the real
ale buffs amongst us)at the bar in the Royal.
