Whale Poop Isle Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Marko Ramius: It appears that a certain endangered species has chosen to nest in Whale Poop. As a result, the Rangers have threatened young children with extinction should they set foot on this island (an exaggeration, I'm sure, but the point is inescapable). So until further notice, this cache must be archived. Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news. Ordinarily, I would ask the owner to remove the cache, but under these circumstances it is probably best to leave everything undisturbed. If the quarantine is lifted in the future, this cache can be unarchived.

Thank you for your understanding and for your contributions to Geocaching.

Geocache Description:

This cache is the old "Otay Wakes" geocache, it has just been transplanted. You'll be at the right spot when you land on an isle that has a beach that feels like "whale poop".... thus the name of this man-made island.

Central Coast Geocachers of California You can drive real close, but those last few tenths of a mile will be a bit harder. Many ways to get there which include: personal submarine, kayak, boat, surf board, hovercraft, etc etc. Reguardless of what you use to get there you should plan on the possibility of getting wet. Easiest way is just to swim.

Depending on which way you go, FI is open from about 8 am till 10 pm I believe. You can access this cache anytime of the day or night though. The cache is well hidden and please make sure to rehide it as you found it! Whale Poop Isle is visited regularly by boy scouts and park visitors so if it is visible then it will be taken by someone. It is very important that the cache be invisible to the random passerby.

Take into account whether or not your GPSR is waterproof and/or floats. I wrapped mine in a washcloth and put it in an airtight tupperware-type container, which I then let float in front of me while swimming across. It worked out great. :~)

Good luck and enjoy!

Cache is children and dog friendly (dogs don't even need a leash if they are on Fiesta Island). A boat of some type may be helpful, but it's just a short swim if you want to get wet. However you decide to get to the cache just make sure that you are safe about it and heed all laws when it comes to boating and swimming. Mountain biking to the cache is not advised for obvious reasons. Cache is nighttime accessible!

3D Differential EPE (WAAS corrected) with Garmin GPS 5 was 6 feet.
