Geocache Description:

A night cache inspired by John Donne's "timeless" words:

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

If a clod be washed by the sea, Europe is the less,
as well as if promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were.

Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind;
and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

And so it shall, toll for thee - in the dark of night, to lead you to this cache.  All you need do is sit quietly at the posted coordinates, and listen for the bell to toll.

Now it won't be a great gong, nor a Liberty peal, but if you sit reeeeeal quietly and listen verrry intently, you'll hear the faint chime as you gaze serenely at the twinkling lights across the Sound.

And when might the silly bell toll you may ask? Well gosh, that's for you to figure out.  Some time 'tween dusk and dawn to be sure - each and every night.  Ah, but even a crazed geocacher isn't likely to sit and patiently ponder the universe the whole blessed night, so...  (kindly lass that the girl of globe be) I offer you two options to whittle down your wait:

Whittle Wait Option A
(wait time: up to 1 hour)
Whittle Wait Option B
(wait time: about half the time as Option A)
1. Hie thyself to the posted coordinates and station thyself adjacent to the tree between the paved path and the water's edge - not a moment later than 7:30 pm.  Peereth at thy timepiece (the clock on your GPSr will do - see note re: "...SYNCRONIZE..." below) and... 1. Hie thyself to thy nearest library or bookstore forthwith and glean thyself a copy of Msr. Hemingway's famous tome (nope, an Amazon search "inside the book" ain't gonna cut it here, that would make it far too easy.)
2. Wheneth thy heareth the fainteth tolling of the bell - note the time and convert the hour and minutes to 24-hour time notation (e.g. 8:24 p.m. = 2024). 2. Locate the number that appears within the paragraph that begins with "Remember..." in Chapter 30.  Multiply that number by 100 and add 1900.  The resulting number shall be your newly whittled starteth wait time (in 24-hour time notation.)
3. Sum all 4 digits of the converted 24-hour chime time; let that number = X. 3. Now locate the number of sticks of dynamite that Sordo says he has in Chapter 11.  Multiply that number by 32 and add 38. The resulting number is your newly whittled endeth wait time (in 24-hour time notation.)
4. Multiply X by the last digit of the 24-hour chime time; Let the product = Y. 4. Proceedeth to the posted coordinates at your newly gleaned starteth time and wait for the chime (knowing that thy wait shall be reasonably shorteth.)
5. Multiply Y by 3986.749; let the 1st 6 digits of the product = ABCDEF. 5. Follow the instructions from steps 2. - 6. under Whittle Option A
6. Now go get the joy at:
N47° 34.DEF  W122° 24.ABC

And finally - just to be certain we're all on the same time -
do SYNCHRONIZE YOUR TIMEPIECE to the precise second here:

Current Seattle Time
