Geocache Description:

Looking for a magnetic key case.
Note: Knight Lane is NOT a through road, as it may show on some maps.

Many people know of the Chain O' Lakes in the Waupaca area, which consists of a string of twenty-two glacial/spring-fed lakes. However, many people are not as familiar with the Upper Chain, which consists of Marl, Pope, Manomin, Knight, and Orlando Lakes. The latter two feed into the very shallow Beasley Creek, which can be followed into Beasley and Bass Lakes, and then into the large and more well-known Long Lake.

The Knight Lake boat landing is a good spot to put in canoes and kayaks for lazy exploration of the no-wake Upper Chain lakes. Narrow channels lead from one to another, and each lake is different in its own way: the bright aqua Marl, the deep dark Pope (part of Hartman Creek State Park), the small but cottage-dotted Manomin (all three to your right from the landing); then to the left, the less-defined Knight and Orlando Lakes, with shallow "island" areas and the beaches of Camp Tamarack to paddle by before coming to their populated shorelines, and the eventual entrance to Beasley Creek. You will most likely have to get out of your boat and walk it down the creek till you are past Whispering Pines Road and Tom Thumb Miniature Golf, should you care to continue further.

We had our first taste of canoeing in a friend's canoe on the Upper Chain here. We come back frequently with our own canoe and launch from this spot. Sometimes we bring the fishing poles, but we mostly explore the different lakes, enjoying the natural features, the wildlife, and the variety of buildings and structures to be found on the Upper Chain. You may not spend much time here looking for this cache, but do come back with your canoe or kayak to enjoy a day on the water.
