Just Ducky - Revived Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Max Cacher: Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. So that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will unarchive your cache.

After we posted a note to you cache requesting a response from you to post what you were planning to do with the cache on the page and sending us a note. We have no record of a response, and no response tells us that you are not planning on replacing, or repairing this cache if we are wrong with that assumption please let me know.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

This cache placement is a resurrection of an oldy but a goody, called Just Ducky (GC4CB), placed by SNOBURD. Thanks SNOBURD, for placing a quality cache. It had been archived when two cachers decided to give up on the hunt, on different occasions, before they got to the actual posted coordinates, and the original cache owner no longer lives in the area to be able to check on it.

After making the hike today myself, I found the original cache still intact in its original location. The round trip hike took me about 1 hour and 13 minutes, which included bushwhacking on the way in. I'd count on at least an hour and a half to grab this one. I removed the original cache container, and it's contents, and replaced it with a nice new (and dry) ammo can. The previous cache contents were quite damp and mildewed, and not worth finding. Therefore, the new cache container contains new trade items and a new log book and pen. I thought about changing the name of the cache to "When the going get tough, the tough get going," but I decided against it. You'll understand after you find it.

This cache is located only 2' off the trail, but the trail is very overgrown and muddy in spots. Boots, pants, long sleeves and gloves are a must when attempting this cache. I also recommend taking some water with you on the hunt, as well as some bug spray. The trail leading to this cache is very overgrown in the summer time. The terrain rating above is for winter time attempts. Summertime attempts are worthy of a 4 star rating for terrain. A machete would definitely see some action on this one!

Park at N35 40.257' W088 56.662. It requires a 0.8 mile hike on trail. It is a 0.65 mile hike if you make a bee-line for it from the parking coords, but I don't recommend it. It has been accomplished before, however. Cache is located on public land. Land surrounded by posted private land. No need to trespass. No need to venture off-trail but trail is washed out at one point. Press forward.
