Make your way to the designated coordinates.
There is two places where you can park your car. One involves some
uphill walk along a service road but not too much of a climb. This
starting point is next to a cemetery located at N 50° 18.078' E
8° 16.563'. You can also park up un the hill near a restaurant.
This parking lot is located at N 50° 17.992' E 8°
17.802'.
Approach the cache coordinates. You should stand in front of a
church (open for visits on Sundays and Germany National Holidays
between May and September from 2:00 PM till 5:00 PM).
There is a sign on the right side of the church door (on the
outside wall of the church). Is has a total of five numbers on it.
The first number is an elevation, the following four are year
numbers.
In order to get the next set of coordinates, you will have to
obtain the results of two different calculations.
Substract the 3rd number from the 5th number. Divide by 10. Add
1. This is result A. Now Divide the second number from the sign by
32 and add 0.4375 to that. This is Result B. Now Substract Result A
from the North Coordinates of the first waypoint and Substract
Result B from the East Coordinates of the first Waypoint (Purely as
an example let's say Result A was 120 and Result B was 63 - Your
new Waypoint would be N 50° 18.453' - 120 = N 50° 18.333'
and E 8° 17.149' - 63 = E 8° 17.086').
This is Wapoint Compass 1
Go to waypoint Compass 1 and take out your compass. Count the
number of benches between 40 degrees and 60 degrees. This number is
Result C. Result D is calculated as follows: Add the 3rd and 4th
number from the sign. Substract the 2nd number from the sign - This
is your interim value. Multiply the first number from the sign with
the number of benches (Result C). Substract that number from the
interim value. Now substract 900 from that number. This is Result
D.
Add Result C to the North Coordinates of Waypoint Compass 1 and add
Result D to the East Coordinates of Compass 1. This gives you the
Coordinates of Waypoint Compass 2.
Proceed to waypoint Compass 2. Look into a south-east direction.
There is a Mountaintop with a tower on it. Get an exact bearing for
that tower. Now the last part of calculations for the Cache
location:
Substract Result C (= Number of benches) from Result D. Add this
to the North Coordinates of Waypoint Compass 2. Now take the
compass bearing and round down to the next tenth (again, just for
example you took a bearing of 237 degrees - rounded down to the
next tenth this equals 230). As a check, this number is evenly
divisable by 4. Now add Result A and Result C to the rounded down
compass bearing. Add this number to the East Coordinates of
Waypoint Compass 2 and off you go towards the cache.
The Cache is in a round Tupperware container packed in a red and
white plastic bag.
Corrected two minor mistakes Gerhard pointed out - Thank you for
that bit of information and congratulations on being #1 on this
cache !
A note on all the calculations that you are doing for this cache
(Thanks Bob for pointing this out): All values and calculations on
locations are to be made as if there were no decimal points in the
WGS84 coordinates. What this means is that if you somewhere within
the calculations end up with a number of 67, this is actually
0° 0.067'. Respectively, a value of 5 would be 0° 0.005'
and a value of 231 would be read as 0° 0.231'
During winter, the seats and back support
of some of the benches will not be there as they are made from
wood. However, you will be able to determine the number of benches
at waypoint Compass 1 by looking for the concrete support posts for
those benches (2 per bench)
