Geocache Description:

Geocaching and 4x4s go together like peanut butter and jelly. Both are great fun, but both must be done in an environmentally aware manner. Tread Lightly® is a not-for-profit organization that works towards educating people in how to recreate in the great outdoors while causing minimum impact on the environment.

It is for this reason that we present the First Annual Maine Northwoods Tread Lightly 4x4 Cache Rally. We will meet at the Irving Big Stop restaurant in Fairfield for a breakfast and socializing, followed by an overview of the Tread Lightly® philosophy. For a preview, you may click here: http://www.treadlightly.org. Each participant will receive a 32 page booklet with many off-road driving hints and tips as well as a Tread Lightly® 4x4 decal. We will be putting on many off-highway miles, including a trip to the Foster’s Solitude cache. This is a great opportunity to safely log a rather out-of-the way Geocache, and will allow you to put your new Tread Lightly skills® to the test. After Foster’s, we will visit many other area off-highway caches, all located in the scenic Northwoods—be prepared to see deer, moose, and other wildlife. There is a possibility of the group splitting into two groups (on Sat.) for those who want to do water (kayaking) caches while those of us landlocked proceed onwards, then meeting at the campsite later. Those who wish may join us for overnight camping Saturday night in The Forks. Cost for camping is $6 per person. Tent site, fire pit, water and toilet facilities are available.

Requirements:
• A good attitude.
• Trail capable 4x4 vehicle (or someone for you to ride with).
• Overnight gear and supplies (tent, food, chair, etc.).
• 2 way radios are useful, if you don't have one, don't worry.
• Be prepared for the outdoors (bug spray *highly* recommended). Goals for this event include:
• Sharing safe 4x4 driving skills and the Tread Lightly philosophy
• Passing on helpful information for finding caches in the backwoods.
• Demonstrating Geocaching and navigational software and hardware (such as finding caches along a route). • Exchanging travel bugs.
• CITO if the opportunity arises.

Please post if you will be participating—we’d like to have an approximate head count before May 31st.

****IF THERE WILL BE MORE THAN ONE PERSON ATTENDING WITH YOU PLEASE PUT THAT IN YOUR POST SO WE CAN KEEP A HEADCOUNT****
