How Geocaching Works
This location is an old amphitheatre located just N of Cap Sante. The trails are thin and slightly overgrown in one area. There are some slippery moss covered stairs and rocks along the trail.
I have heard from locals that this old amphitheatre was once used to watch boat races. This is a place not many people who have visited Cap Sante know about. Partiers may be encountered in the amphitheatre.
Park in the main parking area at the top of Cap Sante in Anacortes.
The trailhead is located at N48°30.836 / W122°35.935 very near a speed limit sign on the N side of the road.
Follow the trail to the amphitheatre at the named coordinates. You know you are on the right path when you descend some old stone steps which are covered in moss.
The cache is a water cooler.
Please remember to cover it back up COMPLETELY so as too keep geomuggles from trashing it.
Here is some information about the location from one of the cache visitors:
"Used to watch boat races here as a kid. Why back when, there were canoe races from the amphitheatre to Hat island, which is straight across the bay. One of the last Mariners Pageant's held in Anacortes, a large naval vessal anchored right in front of the amphitheatre giving all a great view."
|PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB the native plants and wildlife while searching for this cache. The City of Anacortes has been kind enough not to remove the cache from this amazing and delicate place. Please return the favor by being absolutely respectful of the resources on which you are standing. Pack out any litter found in the area. Go to Anacortes Community Forest Lands for more information on the City of Anacortes parks system.

Trailhead clue- possible spoiler?
The trailhead is right here!
View from the Amphitheatre
Today it was overcast in the mountains. On a clearer day a great view of Mt Baker is in order.
The old Amphitheatre
I wish I knew a little more about this magical and peaceful place.
