My buddy Dennis and I are always up for an adventure, so we decided it was time to start an adventure series. This cache is the first in our series of adventures by kayak. We suggest launching your boat on the north side of Hamilton at Combs Park and enjoying this easy paddle upriver to the cache. If you're feeling froggy, after you find the cache, paddle further upriver and pick up Davy Jones Locker (GC14P4T) while you're at it. Otherwise, turn around and enjoy an even easier paddle back down river to the launch site. If you have the logistics support, you could also start near Rentscler Forest and just make the run down and end at Combs.
Incidently, paddling upriver was done when the river was at normal levels for this time of year which translated to about 1.3knts current at the Hamilton gauge. If the river level is up and the current is higher, you'll want to adjust your plans accordingly. You can look at the current conditions at the NWS GMR gauge at Hamilton
If you want a shorter run, you could also launch from the "Bottoms" in New Miami and you could probably even swim from there. Whatever you do, please don't try to access this cache from SR127. Doing so would take you across CSX right of way and likely get you in trouble.
Yes, this area does flood. We suggest saving the cache for a day when the water isn't up. The cache container is rugged and secured to it's hiding place, so it should survive any flooding.
Also, we strive to make nice caches and logs. Please re-hide as found and take care to place the logbook back in it's bag to keep it dry. Please report issues and DNFs so we can resolve them quickly!
Update at publishing: Changed the terrain to 5 at the recommendation of the reviewer due to the equipment requirement of a boat for access to the cache
