Jonsereds station
Norge under våren/sommaren 1905.)
OBS!
stationen.
Statens Järnvägars first line was between Gothenburg and
Jonsered and was completed 1856. The first period the end of line
was at Bokedalen, more or less at the Jonsereds Factories facility
but after less than a year Jonsereds Station was opened about 1,5
km to the east. Wealthy gothenburgers travelled here by train to
eat at the restaurant, stroll by the lake and maybe to pay a visit
to acquaintances who owned one of the big villas by the lake.
Jonsereds current position as an active and successful industry
community gathered many visitors among businessmen, culture
heavyweights and people that never managed to be famous but still
could afford pleasure trips. Several wealthy gothenburgers built
themselves impressing houses round the lake Aspen and the railway
station was very suitable here. In close proximity to the station
there was a docking site for the steam boat and the electric boat
(?) that transported passengers and cargo around the lake, even as
far as Lerum has it been written. The only remaining structure from
the boats today is the pier below Jonsereds Herrgård and the only
remains from the station are some of the employee’s
quarters.
One of the station inspectors during the 19:th century
was Klas Pontus Arnoldson who was very active in human rights
and work for peace. He quit the railroad to become a newspaper
editor, member of Swedish parliament and was rewarded the Nobel
Peace Price in 1908 for founding of the Swedish Peace And
Arbitration Society and probably also for his dedicated work for
Norway during the separation of the Norway-Sweden union and the
peaceful solution to this very delicate political problem.
(Apparently, there was very close to war between Norway and Sweden
in the summer of 1905.)
PLEASE NOTE that the small road down to the cache is motor
vehicles prohibited. Please respect this, not to create irritation
around Geocaching. There are some suitable short time parking
spaces along the bigger road.
The cache is not hidden at the exact spot for the station
house but well inside what could be called the station area. Within
the cache there is a small collection of pictures of the station.
Please ad more pictures if possibility occurs.
If something in this text is wrong, non would be happier than
me to know.
Good luck!
