This cache is one of the “Along the ArKansas” Caches, that I
have placed. Others are at Syracuse,
Dodge City, and Great
Bend.
This one is a Multi-cache with 3 coordinates. At the listed
coordinates you will find a small engraved plastic tag (approx 1" x
3") marked 'Geocache' with the next coordinates. Please park at
designated parking areas...Coordinate #2 is very
close to Poison Ivy..You should be able to read it fine without
touching anything! Parking at #3 is east of the
river..south of the road parking is on a steep
incline..use parking brake..if you park on north side you will have
to cross a busy road.
The contents of this cache are in a cammo-painted Ammobox. Contents are: logbook, pens,
pencil, pencil sharpener, Geocache paper, and various trading
treasures.
Abit about the Arkansas
River…
At 1450 miles, the Arkansas is the longest
tributary in the Mississippi-Missouri system. From its source near
Leadville, Colorado, the river drops almost 10,000 feet in
elevation in 125 miles (from near Mt. Democrat, c. 14,145 ft., to
Pueblo, c. 4,600 ft.), carving out scenic beauty including the
Royal Gorge. It travels through Kansas, where it irrigates wheat
fields, then through Northeastern Oklahoma. There it is joined by
the Canadian, Cimarron, Neosho-Grand, and Verdigris Rivers. It then
crosses the state of Arkansas where it empties into the Mississippi
River 600 miles north of New Orleans.
In Kansas..
The Arkansas enters the state west of Syracuse where it passes
just south of town, then it goes south, south of the city of Garden
City & Dodge City, further north to south of Great Bend (where
it makes the great bend..hmm) then south to the southside of
Hutchinson, through Wichita, and eventually leaves the state by
Arkansas City, where it goes into Kaw reservoir and then on to
Tulsa.
In Wichita..
The Arkansas enters northwest of 235 northwest of 21st Street,
curves south of Twin lakes and follows Amidon and McLean west and
south of Sim Park, south of Cowtown, by the Indian Center &
Exploration Place. It continues to follow McLean until it passes
south of Pawnee by Herman Hill Park. It then goes east crossing
just north of the Drive-in on Hydraulic. It departs Wichita as it
crosses 47th Street just west of Oaklawn.
