Located on the summit of Salmo Mountain. Good road to the lookout, easy find. Beautiful view.
This cache is located at the summit of Salmo Mountain which is accessible via Pass Creek pass. There is a lookout tower at the summit that is still intact, but no longer used. There is an excellent view from atop, looking to Canada, Washington, Idaho, and the Rockies in Montana.The road to Salmo Mountain can be reached from Sullivan Lake on the Washington side or Priest Lake on the Idaho side. Follow the signs to Salmo Mountain and take a left at the road (which is unmarked) at N48.57.365 and W117.05.303.The road is very well maintained, gravel all the way to the top of the mountain. It gets a little rocky the last hundred yards, but most vehicles will have no problem making it up to the top. If you are in a low-riding car, you may want to park and hike that last 100 yards.I grew up in Metaline, Washington and always enjoyed going to Salmo Mountain to look at the spectacular mountains.
