NOTE: This cache seems to have been lost or stolen, so until
somebody replaces it, please treat this as a "virtual" virtual
cache-- that is to say, please take your picture at the site of the
boulders in the center of the ridge/saddle with your GPS and the
mountains in the background. If somebody wants to replace the cache
for me, please let me know!
This cache was planted at the end of a two month trip to
Kazakhstan, and is named after Shrek since it was one of the few
movies in English we were able to watch while in Kazakhstan!
As far as we know this is/was the first Geocache to be
planted in Kazakhstan, but we hope not the last.
The cache is located on the grounds of the Chimbulak Ski Resort
which is outside of Almaty, the old capital of Kazakhstan.
Since it is a ski resort, there is snow in this area, and the
cache will probably be buried during the winter. As such, it
is recommended to attempt this cache only during the summer
time.
The cache is probably a 3 or 4 mile (5-6 km) hike from the ski
resort base where you can park, but you can choose to pay a few
bucks and take the chair lifts up the mountain if you prefer.
From the top are some beautiful views of rugged mountains and
glaciers. Watch out for the horse-flies during warm days
though (they were thick when we planted the cache in
mid-August).
