West Point Lake
Shoreline CITO

The US Army Corps of Engineers has issued a call for help from clubs, organizations and the community to volunteer for the 7th Annual Lake Clean Up. They are in desperate need of help this year due to the flooding from heavy rains from the previous weeks. The water levels have gone down leaving trash and debris along the shoreline of the lake and in the parks. Clubs and organizations will have their own areas to hold their events. This gives us a great opportunity to hold a CITO event. The timing couldn't be better since a lot of us cachers will be there camping for the weekend.

We will meet at the gate of R. Shaefer Heard Campground, then head over to our designated area. The CITO event will be from 9:00 am until noon. Bottled water, gloves and trash bags will be provided.

As a Thank You to all the volunteers the USACE is serving lunch following the clean up at the Earl Cook Day Use area at 12:30 p.m. As a Thank You to the Geocachers we will have a raffle with some CITO items and a coin.

If you are interested in the Chattahoochee Valley Cachers camping event please look up GC1YYP5.

So sorry I didn't make the event! From the sound of it you may want to plan another CITO. I'm sure they would be glad to have us back for more help. Maybe we could take along some scouts. Thank you Linda for organizing a great event!

CITO is needed every day here it seems. After all the bending and picking it still needed help. Thanks to the event planners, (Jazzmaster) and thanks for the beautiful coin.

Wow at the trash and hundreds of sports balls at this lakeshore. It is amazing what all we found. Thanks for the chance to help clean up!

Well, we started out in an area that was in serious need of clean up and just when it was looking good, we moved down the shore about 100 yards and devastation sets in. This was the area that literally could have used 50 volunteers for the DAY. What a trash deposit. We worked hard and made a dent.

It was good being with friends for a good cause. It was good to help out in a small way the US C.O.E. and thanks to them for the pizza afterwards. Thanks for organizing this effort and allowing us to give back.
