This cache is where a lookout used to be, on top of French Point. From parking (don’t park in front of the gate) to the top, it is about one mile, with about 450 feet of steady elevation gain. This is a nice road for biking, but a little bumpy in some areas. From the top, there is a good view of Mount Higgins to the north.
There are still some remains from the old lookout that was abandoned in 1959. You can find old pieces of rusty metal, some cable, and two concrete footings, one quite large and the other nearly level with the ground. When we walked up, there were signs of bears and deer on the road.
From the top, it is a little bit of a bushwhack to the cache. If you find yourself going though thick brush, you are going the wrong way – there is an easier way in. You are looking for a medium sized Lock ‘n’ Lock.
