The Muttonhole Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Haggis Hunter: Thanks to the WSClan for checking to see if this was here. They reported that it has gone missing. I quickly popped up to the area just to make sure for myself, and sure enough it isn't there. [:(]
The tree cover is extremely dense here, and I expect that who ever stole the cache now knows the location. I could re-hide another one nearby, but because of the trees I think I will just archive this.
I may come back at a later date with a more interesting cache for this area?

Thanks to all of those who have visited.

Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed to coincide with the Scottish Geocacher’s Day Out – Lauriston Farm It will be left in place after the event.

Davidson's Mains is a small village which lies three miles north-west of the centre of Edinburgh.
The village has been around since 1669 at which time it was known as "The Muttonhole" probably because of a small hollow in which sheep were slaughtered.
The village became known as Davidson's Mains around about 1850 the name being taken from the Davidson family who owned the mansion of Muirhouse in nearby Marine Drive.
The village owes it's origin to it's location lying at the junction of two important roads, the road from Edinburgh to Cramond & Queensferry and the road from Leith to Cramond & Queensferry.
Today Davidson's Mains is a very popular residential area which still retains many pleasant aspects of village life.

Lots of large trees about, so you may not get a good signal on the GPS, probably a good idea to look at the Spoiler picture before going?

Travel Bugs are the property of the person who has released them. Therefore I do not count them as a swap item.
Please DO NOT take an item in exchange for any Travel Bugs that you may wish to leave in this cache.

If you are new to Geocaching or don't know the area, then have a look at my bookmark lists for Edinburgh, you may find them helpful.
