Davidson's Mains is a small village which lies three miles
north-west of the centre of Edinburgh.
The village has been around since 1669 at which time it was known
as "The Muttonhole" probably because of a small hollow in which
sheep were slaughtered.
The village became known as Davidson's Mains around about 1850 the
name being taken from the Davidson family who owned the mansion of
Muirhouse in nearby Marine Drive.
The village owes it's origin to it's location lying at the junction
of two important roads, the road from Edinburgh to Cramond &
Queensferry and the road from Leith to Cramond &
Queensferry.
Today Davidson's Mains is a very popular residential area which
still retains many pleasant aspects of village life.
Lots of large trees about, so you may not get a good signal on the
GPS, probably a good idea to look at the Spoiler picture before going?
Travel Bugs are the property
of the person who has released them. Therefore I do not count them
as a swap item.
