Geocache Description:

Atop the twins are lots of cairns - some tall, some small, some even have cement. But which one contains the geocache? You might have to search them all.

In 1939 Dr Cecil Madigan passed by here on his crossing of the Simpson Desert (The first northerly crossing of the desert). When he climbed to the top of one of the twins he found "a cairn stones, possibly built by Day." Madigan pulled the cairn down to search for any messages left there, but found none. He therefore left one of his own in a tobacco tin and rebuilt the cairn. This note was probably found in the late 1950s, however it was irretrievably damaged when being treated to make it legible. In 1962, the Reg Sprigg, a former student of Cecil Madigan's, arranged for a new cairn to be built at the twins to commemorate Madigan's work. With the help of his Geosurveys crew this cairn was built. Sprigg and his family went on to complete the first motorised crossing of the Simpson Desert from here. Since that time the small numbers of travellers who pass by this way have left their own messages in the cairns. But one cairn now has an official geocache - and in true tradition the cache is a small tobacco tin. It contains some interesting little trinkets for you to enjoy.
