It is time for some real Alaskan adventure.
Come join us for some serious whitewater fun as we take a whitewater adventure ride through the Lion's Head in front of the scenic Matanuska glacier. There will be lots of fun to be had and memories to be made as we soak ourselves in the glory of the glacial river as we travel on a guided rafting trip through an awesome awe-inspiring part of Alaska's natural history.
The Lion's Head was formed by an extinct volcano which was plugged by a massive slab and then covered by the sheer enormity of the Matanuska glacier. The glacial moraine and the basalt plug of the ancient volcano combine to create a unique river rapid experience. This is class III & IV whitewater. It is a good place to "get your feet wet" with river rafting if you have never done it.
All the gear is provided as part of the package with the guide service. You will need to wear warm layered clothing under the dry suits to stay warm, but the dry suits will keep the cold water from soaking you. There is limited space and a fee associated with this event. We have 28 seats reserved for this trip and each attendee will need to call and secure their seat with a 50% deposit. This trip is open to children 12 to adult and will cost $72.25 per person. You will need to call 800-746-5753 and mention the GeocacheAlaska! rafting trip July 18 when you are reserving your seats.
This trip should fill up fast so hurry and sign up and secure your deposit. Come join us as we celebrate the grandeur of the great State we live in.
We will all meet at the listed coordinates in Chickaloon at 9:00am in preparation of a 9:30am departure for the river. You can show up earlier as we will all need to get dry suits and get checked in for the morning’s adventure. I am not sure what time things open in the morning, we will meet on the North side of the street across from the gas station, general store, restaurant and the one room motel. You should have no trouble locating them, look for all the rafts.
