Ahh sweet relief... Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MN.Fruitcake: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact me (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, I'll be happy to unarchive it.

***NOTE: If you have any questions, do not reply to the archive note email. Click on the link to go to the cache page and click on my name in the archive log at the bottom of the page. You can then send me an email regarding the cache. Please send me a link to the cache in question so I will know which cache it is regarding. I will not see notes posted to this cache page once it is archived.

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

Cache is out on Minnesota Park Point. It is a bit of a hike (4 miles) on sand and dirt. It is also possible to access this site via a smallish fishing boat on the river side (if you beach it).

Ahh sweet relief... is located near a much needed "outhouse" along the public hiking trail. Park at the airport and head out on foot towards the point. Some people take bikes out on the trails, but this will get difficult 1/2 way in when the trail changes to sand. You will know you are close when you see an old stone building. Also, don't forget to bring the toilet paper ;)

My GPS may be off a little when logging this cache (it was overcast) but look between the building and "outhouse". It should be a fairly obvious geo spot.

After a bit of research it turns out these old buildings are remnants of the Duluth USLHS Buoy Depot. Built in 1906 the structures were used to store buoys and oil. You can also see the remains of the warf. It seems like this was only used for a short period of time and went out of service around 1910. While you are in the area there is also an old lighthouse near by to look at.
