Geocache Description:

A little known area near the Credit river.

I placed this cache container a while ago, and was going to make this into a 'joke' multi, with stage 1 about 100 metres from the final as the bird flies, but a bit farther in practice. As it turned out, I couldn't find a great spot for stage 1, so I decided to make this a traditional. Even without the joke, this is already the favourite of my caches.

The Credit River meanders through Mississauga, and there are many caches along its banks. This one is somewhat more isolated than the others. As I was placing it, I came within 15 feet of two woodpeckers (who I saw again on my return trip - maybe a nest?), a large blue heron, several ducks, squirrels, rabbits, a big mouse (or a small rat, but I don't think it could have been a rat way out here), and lots of deer and other tracks in the mud. After getting home, I realized that I had neglected to leave the newly aquired finders prizes in the cache. So, at 8pm on a cool foggy night with just the faintest moon, I set out again. I tried to use my light as little as possible so see what wildlife I'd stumble across. I heard lots of smaller animals, but only identified the large ones. I met 4 deer on the way in, and was so close that they let me walk through their group with them about 30 feet on either side of me. On the way back, I took a slightly different path (it was dark and I was kind of guessing after all). A lone deer startled me after I surprised it. It bounded off and stopped about 40 feet from me and just looked back. I shined my light at it and saw that it had a rack of about 4 points on it. I hope that you have as much fun finding this cache as I had placing it! Bonus marks if you do this one at night.

The cache itself if an ammo box, stocked initially with some puzzles that I had from my childhood. Trade if you'd like, but the real prize here is the location. In my two trips to this cache, I didn't see a single other person. The Credit River and Fletcher's creek (which you will have to cross) can be dangerous, so use caution. There is some private land nearby - please stay out of the fields (which by the way, is serviced via a private bridge across the river - you'll have to find another way in). Oh, after your trek, when you finally get to the cache, you'll have to stay hidden from the nearby homes to sign the log. You will be close enough to be spotted if you're careless. I purposely did not make the cache too difficult to find, once you're at the right location. Prizes for the FTF, 2TF, and 3rd finders!
