An easy cache on a good oiled road south of the hamlet of Etzicom. Lake levels fluctuate seasonally, so some wading may be required ( under 2 feet deep), hence the terrain rating.
Large enough container to hold most TB's, etc.
Pakowki is the Blackfoot word approximately translating as "bad water." This title is still appropriate to this overgrown slough which has no outlet to sweeten the water. In 1855, a traveller, James Doty passed by Pakowki Lake while looking for the Blackfoot. He noted in his journal that, although the water was clear, it reeked of an offensive odour of hydrogen sulphide. Another aboriginal name for the lake was pah-kan-kee, which translates as "unlucky water," from having lost a number of horses while encamped here. C. E. Wolff, the Dominion Land Surveyor who was in the area in 1883 recorded the name as Pakoghkee. One other source has suggested the name might mean rolling hills. This spot is known for it's abundance of water and marsh birds. June and July are prime times to see numerous species. In 2010 the lake was visable from several dozen kilometers away when runoff from the winter snow and abundant rain refilled the lake.
