Geocache Description:

It competed with the existing West Coast Main Line route for traffic to London which had served Rugby since the 1830s.

The cache is located on a public footpath which runs past the old remains of the Great Central Main Line Railway which served the historic town of Rugby in Warwickshire.

The Line opened in 1899 and ran services between London (Marylebone) and Sheffield via Leicester and Nottingham. Most of the Great Central line was closed on 5 September 1966 under the Beeching axe. On this date, the line south of Rugby Central and north of Nottingham was closed.

It's such a shame this stretch has not been restored or made into a railway walk. Although some of the line has been made public footpath closer to Rugby.

There are several footpaths in this area which can make a lovely circular walk through stunning countryside and along the tow path of the North Oxford Canal. Please note there is no pen in the cache.

Note:
Due to the cache being within 1km of a prison I have been requested by the reviewer to advise you that if challenged explain that they are Geocachers. This is very unlikely as the cache is 0.3 miles from the prison and two farms fields away (not even within viewing distance) and on a public bridleway.
