Ready for the Halloween season? Then go out for a leasurely hike
along the trails of Southwest Park and pick up some devilish caches
along the way. This series is family/kid friendly and a good way to
have some extra fun over the Halloween holiday. Most caches are
within 40 feet of the trail, those that aren't are in relatively
cleared areas off the trail. If you are going out to pick these all
up in one trip, I recommend taking them in order. Your hike will
take you from the parking area around the Greenway trail to Bear
Run trail down Chimney Run then back up Lake trail then a short
portion of Southern trail and back to the parking area. No need for
heavy bushwhacking, just stay to the trails and let them lead you
to the caches. I estimate the whole hike will take you about 2
hours including searching time. These are not heavily camo'd and
not difficult to find but they are cute and fun.
Initially the park was going to be closed during the winter
months, but a quick glance at the website tells me the park is now
open year round. Consult the park website for details and hours
open http://www.southwestpark.info/. The park is closed on Monday
and Tuesday. I do not recommend bushwhacking to the trails after
park hours, the area is policed and I don't want anyone to find
themselves in trouble. Bring your own writing utensil. Hope you
enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them.
