Easy 2 mile roundtrip hike from the Blue Ridge Parkway along a beautiful trail. Especially nice in mid may when the Rhododendron are blooming and form a colorful canopy for your hike. Begin at Black Horse Gap.
This cache was designed to get you out of your car and out on a beautiful section of the Appalacian Trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cache name came from the fact that it is a short hike for "old farts" who don't want to continue 8 miles to Fulhart Knob. Hence, Old Fart's Knob. A mile and 1/2 farther past the cache is the Wilson Creek Shelter. Continuing on to the shelter makes this a nice 5 mile round trip. The container is a medium sized tupperware box. There is a stone memorial that someone has placed on the knob with a hollow container. This is NOT the cache. Original contents include a squirtgun, fishing lures, Steve Irwin wildlife warriors bracelet, practice golf ball, Mickey Mouse sticker from Disney world, Rails to Trails pin and a plastic bug.
Please note that the cache is well outside the Parkway boundary, and is well off the A.T. itself.
