Geocache Description:

Are you new to geocaching? Are you an experienced veteran? Somewhere in between? We hope to see all of you at Osborn Park in Sandusky, Ohio for this program! Here is a link for Osborn Park

There will be a small informal presentation, held in the Erie Room at the Frost Center in Osborn Park, at 9 AM. This will be an opportunity for new geocachers to learn from experienced geocachers…

* What is geocaching?
* How did geocaching start?
* What makes a geocache?
* What is GPS and how do I use a handheld GPS unit?
* How do I find a geocache?
* How do I hide a geocache?

After the small presentation, we will break up into groups combining cachers of varying experiences to find geocaching.com loggable geocaches hidden in Osborne Park.

We encourage experienced geocachers to come and help guide the small group hunts, and show some support to Erie MetroParks. EMP are so supportive of our hobby! In fact we were part of the first meetings with the park in 2005! If you’ve been to an event cache before, you know what fun it can be! You can also ask individuals questions regarding paperless caching, including the use of GSAK and Cachemate.

Bring your geogear if you have some, but if you’re new a GPS isn’t required!

Osborn Park is located in Huron Township on Perkins Avenue, south of U.S. Rt. 6 between Huron and Sandusky.

Please RSVP your plans to attend the event by posting a "will attend" log on this page so we can arrange for seating and supplies. Please contact BlackBrownDog (BlackBrownDog@hotmail.com) or Lois TerVeen (programs@eriemetroparks.org) with any questions!

In addition, this is the 40th anniversary of the EMP system, and Lois has suggested some type of cache series or event to celebrate it. It'd be great to hear everyone's ideas!
