Geocache Description:

Wally takes Grampa McMuphin for a road trip.

Thanks to an incredible amount of moral support from countless cachers and well wishers, Wally has made a (nearly) full recovery from his last endeavor. Wally was lucky enough to be discharged from medical care in time for a traditional turkey feast with the extanded family. Even Wally's Grandpa McMuphin took the long drive north from Canada to join in on the festive occasion.

After a day spent recovering from the annual binge eating fest, Grandpa convinced Wally he needed some time "oot 'n aboot." (Sometimes Canadian doesn't quite translate directly into English, but you get the idea.) Wally packed up the trusty Vega and headed out on the road for a day trip with Gramps. They picked a freeway (I-75) and a direction (north), and figured the rest of the plan would eventually come to them.

Enticed by hunger pangs and a billboard or two, they decided to drive far enough for a fine chicken dinner. A few more billboards enticed them to postpone that finger lickin' pitstop and head west for some outlet bargains. Gramps said he wanted to rewire his basement and he needed a few new outlets. Who knew there was a whole mall dedicated to them!?

Once the got over the disappointment of learning the mall had not a single outlet for sale, they discovered that the mall DID have some other worthwhile points. Wally was especially interested in the Black and Decker store. Within minutes of entering the store, Wally already had two shopping baskets filled with items he could not live without. Of course, most of those items went back on the shelves once Grandpa reminded Wally about the lack of extra space in their car. Wally settled on buying one of those newfangled 48 volt framing nail guns. It was only $49 - AND it has a $25 rebate!

Wally was so excited about trying out his new toy, he offered to nail down whatever the store clerk needed to have nailed down. The clerk politely declined the generous offer. Wally took the nail gun next door and made the clerk in the book store the same offer. It took Wally nearly a half an hour to convince the book store manager he was NOT trying to hold up the place. If it had not been for Grandpa bringing over the clerk from the Black and Decker store, Wally would probably be doing time right now.

Out in the parking lot at last, Wally looked for something to nail. Grandpa claimed he was tired and sat in the car filling out Wally's rebate slip while Wally searched. "Hey Gramps," Wally asked, "is asphalt very hard?" Before Grandpa could answer, Wally pulled the trigger. The sound of the nail gun firing was almost imediately followed by the sound of the nail hitting not one, but two targets; one hard, one soft. Grandpa waited to hear Wally wailing with a nail stuck in one extremity or another, but he was pleasantly surprised to hear instead nothing at all. Well almost nothing. There was this tiny little hissing sound....

After Wally changed the tire and put the flat in the truck, Grandpa handed him the filled out rebate slip and pointed to a nearby mailbox. Wally drove over and parked next to the mailbox. As he got out of his car, Wally realized that his luck must be changing for the good! If it had not been for his Grandpa filling out the rebate slip while he changed the tire, Wally might not have stopped and might not have noticed he left his new toy on the roof of the car! Woo Hoo!

Wally tucked the nail gun under his right arm and walked over to the mailbox with a new spring in his step. Unfortunately, the spring was about to be sprung. As Wally reached to open the mailbox, he dropped the nailgun. Pow! It fired off another round. The nail took off on a line right for the closest corner on the nearest building. The lethal projectile rocketed almost exactly 100 feet before connecting with the corner of the building and ricocheting off almost due east. It travelled nearly another 50 feet before embedding itself in the only object around that could not be harmed (besides Wally's head that is).

Seeing the spectacle, Wally did a little victory dance that would put a FTFer to shame. His luck had indeed changed! No harm, no foul as they say! Wally was home free.

When you find the spot where that nail eventually landed, please be extra careful. First of all, there can be a ton of muggles in the area. Secondly, Black and Decker has lots more of those nail guns in stock!

Make sure you bring your own pen or pencil, this one is small enough to prevent us from putting one in the container.
